Roman Lake by Tabon Roman Lake by Tabon
I had the honour to be commissioned by the lady who sculpted some of the Warhammer beasties. One of which was a cockatrice ( this: [link] ) and the brief was simply to be inspired by it and allow myself to endeavor in the freedom of my artistic license. This is the result!

Roman Lake, so called for the numerous stone statues embelishing the land. It was discovered that the area was occupied by a Cockatrice, and so, with great difficulty, material was tied over its eyes to control the population of the rest of the lands inhabitants...

Astonishing and very atmospheric peace of art!  I was mesmerized the moment I saw it. Thank you a lot for creating and sharing it with us.
I was inspired to introduce a cockatrice to my pen-and-paper RPG game based on this image and this image alone was enough to write up a long and very touching back story.
That is what a good piece of art should do - inspire and awe.

it's a dragon that's fallen from the sky because the Cockatrice looked at it and turned it into stone

haven't really decided. I suppose considering it's not all boulders it could have been swooping close to the water before getting solidified
